The widow MALENA JOHNSON, whose husband, Johan Johnson, died in Decker on July 16, 1913, is still living in the same community on the farm which has been leased to the children. Mr.Johnson came here from Sweden in 1878, and in the following year his wife and children arrived. They settled just outside Decker where Johnson bought a beautiful farm, started farming and where he lived to the end of his days. The Johnsons were both from Öggestorp, the region of Jönköping, where he was born in 1845, and she was born in 1835. They were married in 1868 in said parish. Her parents were farmers, Anders and Johanna Monson. Her maternal grandfather’s name was Forserum and he was a hussar for the parish with the same name. Education was not a priority in her home, but she learned what was necessary.
Mrs. Johnson has three children and fourteen grandchildren. Her son, Claus Johnson, is married to Louise Wilke, of German origin, and they live in Decker. Clara is married to G. E. Strömquist and is living in New Sweden. Amanda. married to Victor Monson, has her home in Decker. The Johnsons have belonged to the Swedish Methodist Church in Decker for several years.
