CARL T. WIDEN, is best known as a banker at the American National Bank of Austin, Texas. During the twelve years when Carl T. Widen was employed at this bank, he has proven himself to be a faithful, reliable and honest worker. His superiors have given him deserved recognition for his efforts and now and then has been promoted to more responsible positions in the bank. For five years Carl Widen has held the position of assistant cashier of the American National Bank of Austin.
Since most people who have any ambition have a longing to get to the point as quickly as possible to where they can work for themselves and be their own boss, this opportunity came to Carl Widen to become a partner with one of Austin’s oldest firms. He resigned from the above-mentioned bank. In July, 1918, he became partner in the firm of Bohn Bros. in Austin. Carl Widen has all the talents which are necessary in business, and it is certain that he will have a successful and bright future ahead of him.
As the son of the late pastor of the Augustana- Synod, Carl Gustaf Widen, and his wife, Gustava Peterson, Carl Widen was born in Des Moines County, Iowa, in 1884. He was educated at Luther College in Wahoo, Neb., Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and at the University of Texas, where he later took his student exams and graduated in 1902.
His parents emigrated from Sweden to this country when they were young. His father who worked as a Lutheran pastor in the Augustana Synod since 1877, and a teacher during the later years of his life at the Gethsemane Church in Austin, died in Austin in 1907. Mrs Widen lives in their beautiful home in Austin.
Carl Widen married Edna Bohn in 1917. She was the daughter of Hermann Bohn, a businessman in Austin for twenty-seven years, and his wife. Alma Hofheinz. She was born in Austin, Texas, in 1898, went to Austin High School, and then an additional two years at the University of Texas.
As a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin, Carl Widen has constantly been working for the development of this church. For nine years he has worked as a trustee and treasurer. When they built a new parsonage, he was a member of the building committee. He has encouraged good singing and music in the congregation. He is a particularly talented cellist. He is a member of the Austin Men’s Choir and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He is also chairman for the So. Union of Swedish Singers.
