JOHN A. BROMAN is from Hjelmseryd, parish, Småland, and was born in 1858. He came to this country at the age of ten in the company of his parents. They first lived near Andover, Ill., but later moved to Kansas. The young man grew up there and made his own home. In 1881 he married Ida Carlson from Säfsjö, Småland. She was born in 1865. Their marriage was blessed with ten children of which two of them are dead; Emma and Thora. The remaining are: Albert, born in 1882, married to Miss Minnie Bergstrom from El Campo, Texas and living in Brady; Mrs. George Youngdahl, born in 1886, Brady, Texas; Mrs. J. H. Youngdahl, Melvin, Texas; born in 1889; Herbert Broman, born in 1892, and married to Olive Hanson, West Sweden; Myrtle, born in 1896, married to Oscar Byman; Rorence, born in 1898, married to Oscar Helge, Brady; Ethel, born in 1901, and Edward, born in 1904.
The Broman family moved from Kansas to El Campo, Texas, in 1894. He then lived in that area for sixteen years and devoted himself to farming. The Bromans came to Melvin in 1910, bought a beautiful and well located farm. It takes up six town blocks and is located within the town limits. Mr. Broman has been successful as a farmer in Texas, like so many other people from Småland. Industry, thrift and good planning are helpful in making a success. The family belongs to the Swedish Methodist congregation in West Sweden.
