      CARL ARTHUR RYDEN and his wife, Beulah Celess, born Dahlberg, were both born and raised in this country. Mr. Ryden was born in Gibson, Ill., in 1889, and his wife was born in Taylor, Texas, in 1892, and her parents, Frank and Amanda Dahlberg, still live on their farm outside the city. They were married in 1914.
      Mr. Ryden came to Waco in the company of his mother in 1891. He got a good education, and in addition to elementary school, he attended Toby’s famous business school in the city. Mr. Ryden’s first job was in Mr. Kassell’s Pharmacy, but he changed jobs and started working in Behren’s Drugstore as a clerk. He stayed there for eleven years and advanced to assistant buyer. When he left there he took a position with McKnight Drug Co. Through good business sense, good behavior and a pleasant manner, he has won respect among superiors and customers. He is well known and respected among his countrymen and Americans.
      Mr. Ryden has made and is still making an important contribution, both to the local congregation and in wider circles, as he is one of the most active laymen in the Swedish Methodist Church in Texas. He has carried out much Christian work as Sunday School leader, chairman of the Epworth League and representative in the Swedish Methodist congregatoin in Waco. As the district chairman for the Epworth League, he has shown skilled leadership and has shown his devotion to the youth organization. He has held this position for five years.
      Mrs. Ryden grew up in Taylor and Hutto, where her parents lived. In addition to elementary school, she attended the Texas Wesleyan College in Austin. For several years she was the organist of the congregation in Taylor and was active in the Sunday school and youth organization. She continues to be active in her new congregation. Mr. Ryden’s mother, Mrs. Charlotta Swenson, who lives with her son, has belonged to the congregation from the early days taken various jobs and has offered her good support.
