In 1852 a treaty was signed between the Kingdom of Hawaii and the Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway.  This was a treaty to promote friendship and commerce:

William Mattson was a pioneer of the Pacific ocean, developing his own specialized vessels to transport goods and later people.  He not only provided a link between the US and Hawaii with the trade of goods, but also established the first luxury ships that carried passengers to the Islands.  He built the Royal Hawaiian Hotel among others:
